Special FX | 1 Week Course

This course is perfect for make-up artists as it will give you the realistic skill and knowledge base that will be expected from you as a make-up artist working in TV and Film.

Special FX make-up is not to be confused with Prosthetics, which is a specialist subject and not the role of a make-up artist but a separate area altogether. In short, whether you go on to work on a TV drama, soap or film, fight scenes, accidents and illnesses may be written into the script, which you will be expected to deal with. If your script involves the need for a severed arm or wound that pumps blood, a Prosthetic Specialist will be brought in to do the job. This may require the involvement of the make-up artist and you may be expected to apply and colour up a piece but generally you would never be expected to create prosthetics yourself.

The content of this course focuses on what is relevant and realistic to what may be asked of you in the future as a working make-up artist within media.

Most students will cover this on the 10 week media make-up course, though it is possible for already professional make-up artist, wishing to advance their skills in Special FX Make-up to attend as a 2 week module only.
